Goodbye Caitlin Clark: Update on the Indiana Fever star’s new injury that made her cry and will keep her out of the WNBA All-Star Game

The Indiana Fever may have clinched an 85-77 road win over the Connecticut Sun on July 15 at TD Garden in Boston, but the mood quickly shifted from triumph to concern as star guard Caitlin Clark appeared to aggravate a previous groin injury in the final moments of the game.

With the 2025 WNBA All-Star festivities just days away, and scheduled to take place on Clark‘s home court, fans are now bracing for the possibility that she may miss one of the league’s biggest events of the season.

With 40 seconds remaining in the game, Clark was bringing the ball up the court and executed a sharp cut and pass to teammate Kelsey Mitchell, who converted an easy bucket.

But instead of celebrating the assist, Clark was visibly uncomfortable, immediately clutching at her groin, the same area that had sidelined her earlier this season.

She didn’t return to the floor. Shortly after, she was seen leaning against the basket stanchion with her head bowed before walking slowly to the bench.

Wrapping a towel over her head, Clark remained seated and appeared to be holding back tears as the final seconds ticked away.

While the Fever improved to 12-10 on the season with the win, the possible loss of Clark for the upcoming All-Star break cast a long shadow over the result.

All eyes now turn to the All-Star Game in Indianapolis

Adding to the weight of the moment is the timing. Caitlin Clark had been named a captain for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, which is scheduled for July 19 in Indianapolis.

The game, hosted at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the home of the Fever, was already shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated events in league history, in large part due to Clark’s involvement and the growing national attention surrounding her rookie campaign.

Clark was also expected to participate in the All-Star three-point contest, an event that perfectly suits her long-range shooting prowess and competitive flair. Her status for both events is now uncertain, and fans across the country are left anxiously awaiting an update on her condition.

At this point, the Fever and WNBA have yet to provide an official medical report, but the optics from the broadcast and fan-captured footage were sobering.

Clark, usually composed even in high-pressure situations, looked noticeably distraught on the bench. While there was no contact on the play that led to her apparent injury, the sudden discomfort she displayed suggests a possible re-aggravation of her prior groin issue.

This potential setback comes during a time when Clark has finally been hitting her stride again following early-season bumps and injuries.

Her performance has helped fuel Indiana’s surge in the standings, and her presence at the All-Star Game was expected to elevate the event’s national profile, especially as it’s taking place in her home arena.
