Golden State can’t afford two Currys? Kuminga’s $48.5M deal puts Seth on the edge

Golden State has never been short on drama. Just when it feels like the dynasty might slow down, something new takes over the headlines. The latest twist? Seth Curry’s future in the Bay.

Curry, who signed an Exhibit 9 deal with the Warriors earlier this month, has been practicing alongside his brother Steph in training camp. The contract keeps him active but offers no guarantees past November. At 35, Seth still brings one of the sharpest jump shots in the league, hitting nearly 46% from deep last season in Charlotte. But fit isn’t the question here – it’s the numbers.

This is the first time the Curry brothers have shared an NBA floor since their Santa Cruz G League days back in 2013. Back then, it was about survival. Today, it’s about timing. Golden State has built its dynasty on shooting, but keeping the roster balanced under new league rules has become more complicated than ever.

Kuminga’s Extension Shifts the Math

Jonathan Kuminga’s new two-year, $48.5 million extension gave the Warriors a young star to anchor their future, but it also tightened the team’s salary cap flexibility. With Golden State already carrying one of the NBA’s most expensive payrolls, every roster spot comes at a cost.

That makes Seth’s situation difficult. According to team sources, he’s unlikely to stick beyond training camp unless the Warriors can shuffle money around. His shooting is a natural fit, but the second apron penalties under the NBA’s cap rules leave little room for feel-good signings.

Still, Curry’s value is clear. His journey – undrafted in 2013, bouncing through the G League and multiple franchises – turned him into one of the most dependable shooters in basketball. Even in limited minutes last season, he led the NBAin three-point percentage. Efficiency like that doesn’t fade, and it’s exactly the kind of weapon Steve Kerr’s system has thrived on.

For now, Seth remains in uniform, running plays, and waiting. The Warriors have a few weeks to decide if the reunion can last longer than camp. Whether it does or not, fans are at least getting a rare sight: two Currys sharing the same floor, even if only for a short time.
