Before Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce made headlines as a celebrity power couple, there was a surprising bit of backstage matchmaking – and a tarot card.
Marielle Hadid, the older sister of supermodel Gigi Hadid, revealed this week that she playfully encouraged Swift to pursue Kelce before their relationship began, and even used a tarot card reading to make her case.
Speaking on the Nice Girls Don’t Win podcast, Marielle recalled doing a reading for the pop star during the Eras Tour stop in Santa Clara, California in summer 2023 – around the same time Kelce had made headlines for saying he wanted to meet Swift.
“I did pull a card for her because I had seen something where [Travis Kelce] had said that he wanted to date her,” Marielle, 44, explained on Wednesday’s episode. “So I told Gigi and I told her, I was like, ‘Come on, even if it’s just for fun.'”
Swift, she said, had never had a tarot reading before – but the card that came up featured the word “swiftly,” a detail that Marielle interpreted as fate. “So I take all responsibility for [the relationship]!” she joked.
Kelce, Swift and a playful prediction
The Hadid family has long been connected to Swift, who counts Gigi among her closest friends. But Marielle admitted that her moment of matchmaking wasn’t just spiritual – it also came with a wink.
When podcast host Amy Bean asked if she told Swift that Kelce would be “a good lay,” Marielle responded with a laugh: “I did! I was like, ‘Come on.’ … She deserves it.”
Swift and Kelce eventually went public with their relationship in September 2023, when the singer attended one of Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs games – an appearance that kicked off months of viral media attention. Since then, she has frequently supported Kelce at games and even cheered him on during his team’s 2024 and 2025 Super Bowl appearances.
The couple’s relationship quickly became a pop culture phenomenon, with their interactions closely followed by fans and media alike. From stadium sightings to backstage concert cameos, Swift and Kelce have embraced their high-profile status.
Most recently, speculation has ramped up again after Kelce referenced his $20 million rental home in Florida, leading some to believe he and Swift may be living together during the NFL offseason. While neither star has confirmed that detail, Swifties have been combing through interviews and social media posts for clues.
Swift‘s rep has not responded to Marielle’s latest comments, but fans were quick to pick up on the tarot tidbit and Hadid‘s cheeky endorsement of Kelce’s off-field talents.
Whether the tarot deck had anything to do with the relationship or not, Marielle Hadid is happy to take a bit of credit – and it’s clear that she was one of the first to see something special in the pairing before the rest of the world caught on.
