New York Giants General Manager Joe Schoen has expressed strong admiration for rookie running back Cam Skattebo, highlighting his early progress and potential impact on the team’s offense. Selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Skattebo has quickly made an impression during offseason workouts.

“Just the way he plays, the mentality he plays with, the toughness, the competitiveness, the grit,” Schoen said. “Good hands out of the backfield, as well. Just a darned good football player, so we were excited to get him.”

Skattebo‘s collegiate career at Arizona State showcased his versatility and resilience. In his senior season, he rushed for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns, adding 605 receiving yards and three touchdowns. His performance earned him First-team All-American and All-Big 12 honors.

Skattebo’s Grit Impresses Coaching Staff

Beyond statistics, Skattebo‘s playing style has resonated with the Giants’ coaching staff. National scout Marcus Cooper emphasized Skattebo’s physicality and mindset: “He runs with violence, he plays the game the right way in my opinion and I appreciate that about him.”

Skattebo himself is eager to contribute, stating, “Physicality is definitely contagious. If someone gets ran over, it hypes the other guys up and gets them going. So I’m gonna continue to bring that and hopefully it feeds off onto my teammates.”

While quarterback Jaxson Dart, a first-round pick, is also drawing attention, Skattebo’s immediate impact potential cannot be overlooked. His combination of power running and pass-catching ability positions him as a valuable asset in the Giants’ backfield.

As the Giants prepare for the upcoming season, Skattebo’s development will be closely watched. His early performance suggests he could play a significant role in revitalizing the team’s offense.
