Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future hangs in the balance. After the Milwaukee Bucks’ early exit from the NBA playoffs, insiders suggest several teams are preparing blockbuster trade offers to land the superstar forward.
Despite the disappointing postseason, the Bucks don’t appear to be in a rush to part ways with Antetokounmpo. NBA insider Shams Charania revealed Thursday on The Pat McAfee Show that the team and the player have scheduled an initial meeting to discuss his future.
“Giannis is going to talk to his representation, and there’s going to be a meeting with the Bucks,” Charania explained. However, he emphasized that Milwaukee’s options are severely limited due to salary-cap constraints. That’s where the San Antonio Spurs could step in with an offer the Bucks can’t refuse.
A potential trade between Milwaukee and San Antonio?
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), analyst Rusty Garza echoed former NBA executive John Hollinger’s suggestion that the Spurs could make a serious offer for Antetokounmpo-one centered around 2025 Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and “multiple lotto picks.”
According to Garza, rumors have intensified since Hollinger floated the possibility of Milwaukee exploring a trade this offseason.
“The Spurs are one of four teams he [Hollinger] believes could make a serious offer.”
The trade would make sense for both franchises. The Spurs would land the perfect mentor for young star Victor Wembanyama, forming a terrifying duo on the court. Meanwhile, the Bucks would secure Castle and bolster their draft capital, setting up a promising future.
How likely is a deal?
Milwaukee’s biggest hurdle is its lack of valuable trade assets beyond Antetokounmpo, combined with limited salary-cap flexibility. For a trade to materialize, multiple teams would likely need to get involved, complicating a potential deal with the Spurs-or any other interested party.
With the NBA playoffs underway and free agency still weeks away, all eyes will be on the Bucks and Antetokounmpo as the situation unfolds.
