Giannis Antetokounmpo could be removed from a supreme race

The game played this Wednesday, December 3, between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Detroit Pistons resulted in a costly victory for Giannis Antetokounmpo, who suffered a calf injury and will now be sidelined for three to four weeks.

This physical setback affecting the Bucks’ star could jeopardize something highly significant for his 2025 season. Because of that, he hopes his recovery can be as quick as possible so he can return to the court and continue pursuing the goals he has set for himself.

In addition, this situation coincides with the possibility of a potential trade that the player is evaluating alongside his agent, as he considers what his future in the league might look like in the near term.

The uncertainty surrounding his physical condition and his long-term plans only intensifies the attention on his current status and the challenges he now faces.

Injuries will harm Giannis

Before this recent injury, Giannis Antetokounmpo had already missed six games, and that unfavorable statistic is now working against him as he aims for important awards handed out at the end of the NBA season.

It is important to note that Giannis has already missed 6 games this season. He must play in a minimum of 65 games to remain eligible for MVP, All-NBA, and other honors. This calf strain could result in his All-NBA and MVP voting streak ending.

And now, according to what ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported, he will be away from action for a considerable period of time, which would further diminish the possibilities mentioned by Brett Siegel.

This combination of missed time and ongoing physical issues complicates his chances of receiving individual recognition and maintaining the streak of award consideration that has marked much of his career.

The Bucks have struggled during the 2025 season

The Milwaukee Bucks have been unable to establish themselves this season, even with their superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has not been the decisive factor needed for the team to find a consistent rhythm.

At this point, they hold a 10-13 record for the year and are far from the expectations placed on them, particularly considering that by this month, they were projected to have a winning record, something very different from their current reality.

The path has become increasingly rocky for the Bucks in 2025, and now, with their great player on the bench because of the injury he suffered in the last game against the Detroit Pistons, the outlook is anything but encouraging. His absence places additional pressure on the roster and coaching staff, who must find ways to compete without the presence of their most dominant figure on both ends of the court.

Milwaukee’s next game will be against the Philadelphia 76ers at 8:00 p.m. ET, where they hope to secure a victory that can help them improve their record and regain some momentum despite the adversity they are currently facing.
