After hours filled with conflicting testimonies and a flood of opinions about the sequence between Gianluca Prestianni and Vinícius Jr., the Argentine player has surprisingly come out to defend himself on social media.
Prestianni’s stance with Benfica’s support
The Benfica forward used his X account to respond to the accusations leveled by Real Madrid players and the general public. Backed by Benfica as an institution, Prestianni gave his version of events, defending his position and rejecting what he considers false accusations and incriminations.
“If they claim so strongly that I supposedly made a racist comment to Vinícius Jr., why didn’t anyone react? Accusing someone of something so serious isn’t right, especially when it’s not true. And everyone pointing fingers at me just for covering my mouth with my shirt-when everyone knows players cover their mouths to talk. Stop making things up,” Gianluca Prestianni wrote on his profile, quoting the video posted by Benfica’s official account.
Just minutes before the young Argentine player’s post, Benfica released a video from another angle showing that no Real Madrid player could have possibly heard anything-making it practically impossible for Kylian Mbappé to have heard Prestianni say “mono” (monkey) five times to Vinícius Jr. as Mbappé claimed in his post-match statements following the Champions League game.
