Giancarlo Stanton’s power is on full display, and while Aaron Boone can be thrilled, he may also be sweating over his team’s postseason chances

All the help the New York Yankees can get is welcome, so the offensive explosion from a player like Giancarlo Stanton is nothing but good news for a team that’s fighting for its MLB playoff ticket at this point in the season.

In the Yankees‘ most recent blowout, led by Aaron Boone, Stanton was one of the standout performers, particularly with two home runs.

Giancarlo Stanton is heating up with the bat

The slugger’s first home run traveled 386 feet, just clearing the wall. The 98.4 MPH fastball from Baz came off Stanton‘s bat at 104.4 MPH. It was the third of the nine home runs of the night and the first for Stanton.

His next one sailed over the right-field wall, just like the first. He crushed a low-90s fastball from Seymour like a rocket, with the line drive traveling at 103.4 MPH.

In his first 46 games of the season, Stanton is on an absolutely torrid pace. He currently boasts a .306/.386/.619 batting line, and if he maintains this pace, it would mark the first time he finishes a season with a batting average above .300 and an OPS over 1.000 since his MVP year.

While his numbers won’t reflect a full season, at 35 years old and nearing the end of his 13-year, $325 million contract, they’re impressive, especially since many doubted he could perform at this level.

Stanton could match his best numbers as a Yankee in these 46 games. According to Stathead, in 2021, between August 6 and September 28, Stanton hit .310/.361/.655 with 18 home runs and 43 RBIs.

Beyond individual achievements, this is welcome news given the team’s current situation. They’re in the thick of the Wild Card race, but any slip-up, which is far from unlikely, could leave them out of the postseason just a year after competing in the World Series.
