Giancarlo Stanton returns to right field with Yankees against Rays amid injury concerns

After missing the series against the St. Louis Cardinals with lower-body soreness, Giancarlo Stanton will return to the field as right fielder in Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays

Stanton’s return is good news for the Yankees, who have won seven of their last 10 games. Although his physical condition requires caution, the team is confident in his ability to contribute both offensively and defensively.

Stanton back on the field out of strategic necessity

The decision to place Giancarlo Stanton in right field is partly due to Aaron Judge‘s injury, as he is suffering from a flexor strain that limits his ability to throw. This has forced manager Aaron Boone to reshuffle the defense, allowing Stanton and Judge to share the lineup without compromising the team’s performance.

Aaron Boone trusts Stanton’s discipline

Manager Aaron Boone praised Giancarlo Stanton‘s mentality, highlighting his discipline and body awareness. “He’s very in tune with his body and incredibly mentally disciplined,” Boone said. This attitude has been key for Stanton to manage his physical workload and remain competitive at critical moments in the season.

Stanton’s stats in the season

So far in the 2025 season, Giancarlo Stanton has played 44 games, hitting 12 home runs and posting an impressive .953 OPS. His offensive production has been vital for the Yankees, especially in the absence of Aaron Judge. The possibility of having both in the lineup against the Rays represents a significant advantage for the team.

Stanton rotation plan

According to Aaron Boone, Giancarlo Stanton will play on Tuesday in Tampa, but will rest on Wednesday before the series against the Boston Red Sox. This strategy seeks to keep him healthy and available for the more demanding games, avoiding relapses in his physical condition.

Stanton, a key player in the Yankees’ moment

Giancarlo Stanton’s return to right field not only strengthens the Yankees’ defense, but also allows them to keep his offensive power in the lineup. Amid injuries and tactical adjustments, his presence will be crucial as they face the Tampa Bay Rays and continue the team’s good run.
