Giancarlo Stanton destroyed after learning of possibility of seeing him play as outfielder for Yankees: “It’s comical”

The news that the New York Yankees could use Giancarlo Stanton as an outfielder following Aaron Judge‘s injury has caused a stir

The move, considered by many to be desperate, has been labeled “comical” by analysts and fans, who doubt the current defensive ability of the 35-year-old slugger.

A decision forced by Judge’s injury

With Judge out with an elbow strain, the Yankees are looking for solutions to cover right field. With a lack of options, the team has decided that Stanton, who has been almost exclusively a designated hitter in recent years, will begin training to return to defense. The player himself stated: “I’ll do whatever is best for the team,” although he acknowledged that he will have to shake off the accumulated rust.

Yankees’ environment divided

While manager Aaron Boone defends the decision as a temporary and necessary measure, many fans have expressed skepticism. On social media, phrases such as “This is a joke” and “Stanton in the outfield? Get ready for disaster” have become trending topics. The player’s lack of mobility and recurring injuries fuel the doubts.

Stanton’s defensive history

Although Stanton has experience as an outfielder – more than 1,500 games in the outfield during his career – his defensive performance has declined significantly. In 2023, he played only 31 games in the outfield, and since then he has been used almost exclusively as a DH. His recent injury history, including calf and elbow problems, further complicates his return to the field.

The risk of compromising the offensive

One of the biggest fears is that the physical exertion of playing in the outfield will affect his offensive production. This season, Stanton has been key with a .277 average, seven home runs and 20 RBIs in just 28 games. Forcing him to defend could increase the risk of physical relapses and compromise his performance at the plate.

Boone justifies the decision

Boone explained that the idea came about in anticipation of Judge only being able to be a designated hitter on his return. “We need flexibility,” the manager said. However, even within the coaching staff there are doubts as to whether Stanton will be able to adapt to the current defensive demands of MLB.

The New York Yankees‘ decision to consider Giancarlo Stanton as an outfielder has sparked debate. While some see it as an act of commitment by the player, others see it as a sign of desperation. The truth is that, in the midst of a complicated season, every move counts… and this could be one of the riskiest.
