Getting to the pinnacle of boxing in any division is extremely difficuly. Staying there is even harder. Gervonta Davis knows that well, and he’s currently experiencing a ton of turbulence in his life that has his personal and professional future in doubt.
While “Tank” has floated the idea of retirement from the sport, legal troubles arose once again following his arrest on July 11. Davis was arrested after his alleged victim – Davis’ ex-girlfriend – claimed the boxer got physical with her during a Father’s Day argument. But on Tuesday, the charges were dropped, clearing Davis’ name for the time being.
Domestic violence charges against Gervonta Davis have been dropped
According to TMZ Sports, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office say that the case was dropped due to the victim “declining to prosecute”. There was apparently only one witness to the incident: the victim’s mother. The mother apparently “failed to cooperate” and didn’t show up to a prefile conference last week. Attempts to contact her after by phone “were unsuccessful”.
With no witnesses, there was no other recourse for the mother of Davis’ children. Despite the case being dropped, Davis’ public image suffered major damage in the process; especially since this isn’t the first time this kind of thing has happened.
With the legal issues subsiding for now, Davis can focus on securing his next fight. That is, if he even wants to box anymore, something that come into question now more than ever.
