Turbulence in Gervonta Davis‘ career took a new turn, after he announced 20 days ago that he will retire in 2025, on Monday he surprised with the announcement of the cancellation of his next fight against Lamont Roach Jr. to defend his WBA lightweight title on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
In the retirement plan announced by Tank Davis is to hold three fights in 2025 before hanging up his gloves, the first was against Roach, but in a brief message on his Instagram account it seems that it was canceled: “The fight is canceled.”
In the face of the series of contradictory messages from Gervonta in recent days, we will have to wait for an official announcement, because a couple of hours later, Roach himself issued a response.
“What the hell are you still asking me? He said that shit, not me. I’m locked up and nothing has changed,” Roach wrote on his Instagram story, which he capped off with the date and venue: “March 1 Brooklyn,” along with the hashtag #Andthenew.

After fighting Lamont Roach, Gervonta Davis was supposed to unveil his next opponent to continue on his farewell tour and everything points to him choosing to give a rematch to Ryan Garcia, since if he is looking to make money, KingRy is the right one.
On what he will do after retirement, Tank Davis gave hints in an interview with TMZ Sports, after the press conference to promote the fight against Roach, in which he confessed that he hopes to continue with his investments in real estate, where already in 2023 he bet on renovating properties to build affordable housing in his neighborhood of West Baltimore.
“I’ll probably be building my real estate portfolio,” Davis revealed, adding that his goal is to separate himself and no longer be the center of attention.
