George Pickens exposes his true colors for everyone to see: Dallas Insider shows how he flourishes with Dak Prescott

When the Dallas Cowboys added George Pickens in a midseason trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers, many braced for potential turbulence. Known for his explosive playmaking but also questionable locker-room stories, Pickens arrived under a cloud about attitude and discipline.

Yet, according to an NFL insider speaking with EssentiallySports, the wide receiver has rapidly earned respect in Dallas – and much of the credit goes to Dak Prescott for setting the tone.

Reportedly, Prescott took Pickens aside early on and offered a simple message: “Judge everyone, find out who they are.” That approach seems to have paid off.

As one veteran teammate told EssentiallySports, “Yeah, obviously, George was annoying in Pittsburgh… but in Dallas it’s been kumbaya… harmony, bliss and sitting around the campfire and singing songs.” Clearly, the team environment has shifted in Pickens’s favor.

Pickens embraces fresh start

This transformation hasn’t happened by accident. Prescott and fellow star CeeDee Lamb have embraced Pickens, both professionally and personally.

Prescott praised Pickens as a vertical threat who demands attention downfield. “Go turn on that guy’s tape… it’s about getting the ball near that guy and let him go be GeorgePickens,” Prescott told reporters.

Their inclusion strategy has been backed by front-office voices too. Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones likened Pickens to former franchise star Dez Bryant – another fiery competitor when at his best.

“He’s got that uber competitor thing,” Jones said, reinforcing that the team believes Pickens fits their culture when surrounded by the right voices.

Early reactions from observers echo the sentiment. Former coach Jason Garrett told Pro Football Talk that pairing Pickens with a seasoned quarterback like Prescott could unlock the wideout’s talent in ways Pittsburgh never achieved.

Meanwhile, Blogging The Boys echoed that Pickens may thrive without the quarterback carousel he endured in his old locker room.

Cowboys building depth

Beyond locker-room vibes, Pickens’s numbers and skillset back up his integration into the offense. Over the last three seasons, he led the league in receptions of 20+ yards and averaged 16.3 yards per catch.

In Dallas, with defenses keyed heavily on CeeDee Lamb, Pickens offers a threatening complement. His success opens up space underneath for tight end Jake Ferguson, expanding Dallas’s offensive possibilities.

Quarterback Dak Prescott is already envisioning scenarios with Pickens drawing fiendish double-teams. If Pickens can match his raw speed with consistency and reliability, he could force defenses to choose whom to cover-creating mismatches across the board.

That said, the transformation isn’t complete. Pickens played last season on Pittsburgh’s rotating QB roster – and Dallas’s coaching staff will need to ensure he sustains professionalism in all areas. And his contract situation adds pressure: he’ll enter 2026 as a free agent searching for a lucrative deal, which could create distractions if not managed carefully.

But insiders remain optimistic. If Pickens continues to embrace the Cowboys’ culture-anchored by Prescott’s mentorship and Lamb’s leadership –Dallas may have secured a dynamic #2 receiver without the discord once feared.

As training camp begins and pads come on, all eyes will be on Pickens. Will he continue rising in harmony with his new teammates, or will the old concerns resurface? Under Prescott’s watch and in a stable locker room, Pickens may just be the catalyst Dallas needs to elevate the offense in 2025.
