George Pickens embracing Cowboys’ culture following trade from Steelers

The Cowboys‘ acquisition of George Pickens raised eyebrows – not because of his talent, but because of concerns surrounding his temperament and fit within a tightly-knit locker room. However, the wide receiver is probing critics wrong already as he beds into Dallas culture.

Known for his emotional, sometimes volatile demeanor, the 24-year-old was seen by some as a potential cultural mismatch for the Cowboys‘ team-oriented environment under head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Seen as a bit of a loose cannon, the mood inside the AT&T however is that the concerns about Pickens are unfounded and he’s already beginning to show signs of being an excellent fit in Arlington.

“We did a ton of research into GP [Pickens], my interaction with GP has been incredible,” Schottenheimer said to reporters. “He’s going to fit in awesome with what we’re trying to do here. He’s all about a new opportunity. We all change, adjust, grow, I’m thrilled with the way the guys have responded to him.

Pickens, who has already begun training with star receiver CeeDee Lamb, appears to be embracing this fresh start. The chemistry between the two receivers is an encouraging sign for a offense looking to bolster its aerial attack after a disappointing 2024/25 NFL season.

“It’s a chance for he and CeeDee,” Schottenheimer added. “They’ve trained together, they’re spending time together.

“When we did our homework on GP, we didn’t have those concerns and we’re bringing him into a culture that we feel like he’ll thrive just like everybody else.

“Why? Because it’s important to us and we’re going to get to know him and learn his story.”

So far, Pickens‘ behavior and attitude have aligned with the Cowboys‘ expectations. He’s been actively involved in organized team activities (OTAs), participating in meetings and on-field drills with intensity and focus.

Though he has yet to play a down for Dallas, early impressions from the coaching staff and teammates suggest a player committed to growth and professionalism in his latest chapter.

If he can mould that personality to his talent, which produced 900 yards and three touchdowns, then the Cowboys could find themselves with a very capable WR2 to back up Lamb.

Who do the Cowboys play in Week 1?

The Cowboys won’t have to wait long to kick off their 2025/26 season as they’re live in action against the Philadelphia Eagles as Thursday Night Football in the NFL Kick-Off Game.

The contest will take place on Thursday, September 4 and will see the game begin at 20:20 ET/17:20 PT live on NBC Sports from the Lincoln Financial Field.

The defending champions return home following their victory against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, but can Dallas upset the celebratory atmosphere in Pennsylvania?
