In 2025, George Pickens joined the Dallas Cowboys in search of a fresh start in his career and, with the help of better teammates, to bring out all the facets of the rough diamond he possesses as a receiver. However, he could face some tough tests, so he will have to think carefully about his next moves.
Pickens did not have the best quarterback in Pittsburgh or a great team to rely on, but now he has Dak Prescott and a partner in CeeDee Lamb, two high-caliber players he did not have with the Steelers, and the big question surrounding George is whether he will be able to pass the crucial tests ahead.
George Pickens’ litmus test against Cowboys
The receiver will have a couple of things on his to-do list in 2025, such as fitting in with the direction of new head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Another is to play well enough to earn a big contract next offseason, and the other is to change the narrative surrounding his fiery personality.
“Pickens is a tremendous talent, but it remains to be seen if he will be anything more than that,” writes CBS Sports. “He’ll be Dallas’ second wide receiver, a deep pass catcher while CeeDee Lamb shreds the middle of the defense, so the opportunities will be there.”
George Pickens’ self-control problems a factor to change in Dallas
Pickens has been one of the most dynamic receivers in the league when he is on the field and committed, which is not always a given. Pickens led the league by averaging 18.1 yards per reception in 2023 and has 174 receptions for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns in 48 games.
However, he has also constantly struggled to keep his emotions in check. Last season, he finished two games facing off with opposing defenders: first when he grabbed Jourdan Lewis by the facemask and then when he fought with Greg Newsome II.
