Since the 1980s, when the New York Giants implemented the fashion of soaking head coach Bill Parcells to celebrate an important victory, the Gatorade bath at the end of championship games in the NFL has become a tradition.

The Gatorade shower for the winning Super Bowl coach is as striking as the commercials or the halftime show itself in the NFL’s championship game, to the point that there are already statistics and even bets on the particular moment.

For example, for Super Bowl LVIII, purple Gatorade became the favorite color for the bath to Andy Reid, coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

This is because a year earlier that color was the one received by the coach who already has three titles with the team.

It’s incredible to say, but the color of the teams playing on Super Sunday has influenced betting statistics since Super Bowl LIII, when the New England Patriots won.

The history of Gatorade shower colors in the Super Bowl

This is the list of colors that have been used since Super Bowl XXXV, when Gatorade replaced the water in the jugs with which they bathe the winning coach of a game for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

How does this betting tradition started and what colors are the most common?

This tradition was born in 1985 during a regular season game between the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins, when tackle Jim Burt threw Gatorade over the head of his coach Bill Parcells.

The winning color is orange, as it has predominated since the 2001 edition, and since that year there have also been four occasions when the shower has been conspicuous by its absence.
