Bale makes a strong confession about CR7 and Ramos
The coexistence in the locker room between so many prominent figures has been one of the biggest topics of conversation about what it would be like to spend your days surrounded by so many stars.
Gareth played most of his career at Real Madrid, where he remained for eight seasons from 2013 to 2022, sharing the field with Ronaldo until 2018 after Cristiano’s departure to Juventus and until 2021 with Spanish icon Sergio Ramos.
Together they formed the backbone of one of Real Madrid’s most dominant cycles, winning four UEFA Champions League titles together, to name one example, where talent and leadership flooded the team.
Now retired from professional soccer since January 2023, after playing in the 2022 World Cup with Wales, Bale revealed what it was like to share his daily routine with these two great powers. During a chat for The Overlap podcast (via TyC Sports), Gareth Bale reviewed his relationship with Cristiano, stating that “there were never any problems” with him and that, in fact, they got along “well” despite being in a squad surrounded by strong and demanding personalities.
However, he assured that the Portuguese player “was a leader in his own right, but the captain was Sergio Ramos” since “he was the one who spoke, gave the pep talks, and commanded respect in the locker room.”
Despite this, Gareth did not hesitate to highlight Cristiano’s professionalism and how demanding and influential he was, stating that he was always thinking about success: “In training, in matches, all he wanted was to score goals. In fact, if you didn’t pass him the ball, you could tell,” Bale said with a laugh, adding: “He wants to score, but not just one, he aims for three, four or five if he can.”
The Welshman also mentioned that his presence was a “mental advantage,” as just seeing him on the field gave you the confidence that he could score at any moment, but he also recalled that when he was on the field, “you knew that Cristiano wasn’t going to defend as much, so I and other teammates had to sacrifice more.”
He also spoke about his personal relationship with the other member of the BBC, with whom he shared his entire career at Real Madrid since his arrival: “I got on very well with Karim. He was very reserved, didn’t talk much and was always with the French players, but we never had any friction or arguments,” he said.
In short, Bale’s time with Cristiano, Sergio, and Karim left a mark on him and the team, where, beyond their differences in personality and playing style, their qualities ended up being key to one of the club’s most successful periods.
