Gareth Bale claims he was faster than Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid

Real Madrid‘s memorable “BBC” attacking trio is once again the talk of the town. The plays between Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema are etched in the minds and hearts of the club’s fans, but two of them have now captured the spotlight.

The dispute over which of the two players is faster, the Welshman or the Portuguese, has sparked a heated debate among fans. However, Bale has given his own opinion on the matter.

Bale takes a stand against CR7

Gareth played most of his career at Real Madrid, where he remained for eight seasons from 2013 to 2022, sharing the field with Ronaldo until 2018 after Cristiano’s departure to Juventus.

For several years, their physical power and explosive speed pitted them against each other to determine who was faster on the field. CR7 stood out from a young age for his incredible athleticism, acceleration, running power, and ability to change pace, which allowed him to easily overcome defenders.

On the other hand, Bale is considered by many to be one of the fastest players in soccer. His long stride and ability to cover great distances in a few seconds made him especially dangerous.

Now, in his recent appearance on the Stick to Football podcast, the Welshman referred to this debate and made his position clear:

“Cristiano would argue otherwise, as he would,” he clarified before giving his verdict, “But I would like to think, yes [I was the quickest in the Real Madrid team],” he said (via Sportskeeda).

Studies recorded Bale with a speed of up to 36.9 km/h, while Cristiano Ronaldo reached speeds of around 38.6 km/h in matches. However, although the difference is small, there is no doubt that these are impressive figures.

Furthermore, this “competition” between the two players’ speeds was not a negative rivalry, but rather an advantage that the team knew how to exploit. Together they played 157 matches, winning 106 and 13 titles: 4 Champions Leagues, 3 Club World Cups, 3 European Super Cups, one LaLiga title, one Copa del Rey and one Spanish Super Cup.

In short, although there was much debate about who was faster, the truth is that both brought extraordinary speed to Real Madrid, forming part of one of the most feared forward lines in modern soccer.
