The world of sports is sustained by the support of fans, coaching staff and trainers, families, friends, and other athletes.

Women’s sports, meanwhile, are also becoming increasingly important thanks to prominent figures. Such is the case with the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), which has no shortage of big names who want to support its growth and get involved in professional sports.

Even the mergers between sports that allow big names like Patrick Mahomes or Serena Williams to participate are worthy of admiration and mention. That’s why we’re bringing you the names of those celebrities who own an NWSL team.

The league reached an agreement with ESPN, CBC Sport, Prime Video, and Scripps Sport to obtain the rights for four years and $240 million. This only increased the number of figures investing in the NWSL.

Athletes who support the NWSL

The Denver Women’s National League, for example, has the support of investors such as eight-time world alpine skiing champion Mikaela Shiffrin and NFL legend Peyton Manning. Houston Dash is backed by NBA Los Angeles Clippers guard James Harden and former Mexican boxer Oscar de la Hoya.

Bahía FC, meanwhile, has WNBA New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu as a prominent investor. Former Golden State Warriors player Andre Iguodala, Dallas Mavericks CEO Rick Welts, and former US soccer players Brandi Chastain, Aly Wagner, and Leslie Osborne also show their support for the team. Continuing in the world of soccer, Alex Morgan is the most prominent investor in San Diego Wave FC.

And of course, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany Mahomes have placed their trust in Kansas City Current. On the other hand, Magic Johnson did not want to be left out and is one of the most prominent investors in Washington Spirit, along with former US starting goalkeeper Briana Scurry and artistic gymnast Dominique Dawes.

Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, former basketball player Sue Bird, and soccer player Carli Lloyd are some of the prominent investors in NJ/NY Gotham FC, for example.

Shaquille O’Neal’s former teammate, Grant Hill, is a fervent supporter of Pride Orlando. In addition, former NFL wide receiver Torry Holt and tennis players Ons Jabeur and Naomi Osaka are prominent investors in North Carolina Courage. Seattle Reign FC, meanwhile, has former basketball player Tony Parker, Jr. and Seattle Sounders FC majority owner Adrian Hanauer.

Angel City FC, despite being founded by actress Natalie Portman, along with Kara Nortman and Julie Uhrman, also has prominent athletes supporting it. Tennis players Billie Jean King, Ilana Kloss, and Serena Williams, former US soccer player Cobi Jones, who holds the record for most appearances for the national team, and US skier Lindsey Vonn, who is also known for her support of Utah Royals, are some of the most prominent investors.

Undoubtedly, the sport is growing by leaps and bounds, and this type of support and investors of such caliber make all the difference.
