From defeat to challenge: Jake Paul targets Francis Ngannou

Jake Paul’s recent fight with Anthony Joshua in Miami was a high-stakes battle that ended in dramatic fashion, and not just because of the knockout.

The YouTuber-turned-professional boxer suffered a sixth-round stoppage, leaving him with a severely broken jaw that required surgical repair with titanium plates.

Yet, even amid the pain and disappointment, Paul remained outspoken, using the loss as a springboard to reignite talk of a potential fight with former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

The fight, streamed on Netflix, proved to be one of the toughest challenges of Paul‘s boxing career. Speaking on his brother Logan Paul’s “IMPAULSIVE” podcast, he reflected on the bout as a learning experience rather than a crushing defeat.

Paul admitted that the preparation for the fight had been rushed and that he missed crucial altitude training, which affected his stamina and performance.

“It’s not that hard to get your a** beat,” he said with a laugh, emphasizing that the loss was more about scale and experience than lack of skill.

In the aftermath, Paul‘s frustration did not target Joshua but instead shifted to Francis Ngannou, who had previously attempted a crossover into boxing but was stopped by Joshua in the second round of their fight in March 2024.

Highlighting that he lasted four rounds longer against Joshua, Paul suggested that Ngannou might not be as formidable in a boxing ring as many believe.

“Francis is low-key soft,” Paul stated bluntly, reigniting speculation about a potential bout between the two. His comments implied confidence in his own ability to outperform the former MMA fighter.

Paul’s challenge and the Ngannou question

Logan Paul quickly amplified his brother’s message, interpreting Jake‘s remarks as a subtle challenge.

“That means he could beat Francis,” Logan said on the podcast, to which Jake responded that a fight with Ngannou could make sense. Their conversation highlighted the possibility that Paul is seriously considering the bout as his next major move in combat sports.

Ngannou, however, has historically expressed reluctance toward boxing matches with crossover stars. In past interviews, he dismissed the idea of stepping into the ring with Paul, suggesting little interest in pursuing the fight.

Despite this, Paul‘s comments have already stirred debate among fans and analysts, who are curious to see whether the crossover clash could materialize.

For now, Jake Paul’s focus remains on recovery and planning his next steps. Even with a broken jaw and a tough loss behind him, he seems determined to stay in combat sports, channeling frustration into opportunity.

Whether it’s a rematch with a top boxer or a long-discussed confrontation with Francis Ngannou, Paul appears ready to keep the spotlight on him.
