Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays meet again after that thrilling 2025 World Series that went the full seven games. Now, early in the 2026 MLB season, the Dodgers return to Canada, where Freddie Freeman could face a very different – and possibly colder – reception.
The Dodgers star has a deep personal connection to Canada: both of his parents were born there, although his mother passed away when he was just 10 years old.
Freeman has always been warmly cheered during previous visits to Toronto, but now he’s unsure what kind of welcome awaits after playing a key role in taking the championship away from the Blue Jays.
Freddie Freeman on his return to Toronto
“I got cheered Game 1 of the World Series, I don’t know how much we’re gonna get cheered this time around,” Freeman said to Chris Rose Sports. “I’ve always had an amazing time going to Toronto. It’s a special place for me… I always say I feel a little closer to my mom whenever I’m there. I don’t know how warm the welcome will be for our team when we get there, but I always look forward to it.”
Dodgers vs Blue Jays in the 2026 MLB season
The Dodgers arrive in Toronto leading the National League West with a 7-2 record, while the Blue Jays sit second in the American League East at 4-5 after an uneven start.
This matchup is expected to be a high-level series between two teams built to contend for a title, serving as an early measuring stick in the 2026 MLB season and a potential preview of another World Series battle.
