Francisco Lindor surprises in MLB with the Mets: He achieves an unusual record for a shortstop

In a team where the spotlight tends to shine on figures such as Pete Alonso and Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor has managed to shine in his own way.

The New York Mets shortstop reached a historic milestone in 2025 that places him among the most complete players of his generation.

This achievement did not go unnoticed by MLB, who shared on social media: “Francisco Lindor is the first shortstop in Major League history with four seasons with more than 25 home runs and more than 25 stolen bases. The Puerto Rican superstar achieved the feat for the third consecutive season in 2025.”

Francisco Lindor stats

At 31 years old, Lindor is showing that he is in the prime of his career. In 151 games this year, he has hit 27 home runs, driven in 78 runs, stolen 30 bases and has an OPS of .793.

Beyond the numbers, his importance in the Mets lineup is key. Regularly as a leadoff hitter, he sets the offensive pace for the team. His manager, Carlos Mendoza, summed it up after the 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres: “He sets the tone. He sets the table for us.”

Francisco Lindor’s achievements in MLB

The Puerto Rican is no stranger to the big stage. He has won four Silver Sluggers, two Gold Gloves and the American League Platinum Glove in 2016. These accolades confirm his ability to shine with both bat and glove.

His performance has also been crucial in the postseason. During the Mets‘ run to the 2024 National League Championship Series, Lindor posted an .877 OPS and two home runs in 13 games, confirming his ability to respond in decisive moments.

How are the Mets doing?

The Mets currently hold the final wild-card spot in the National League with a 79-74 record, just two games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds. Lindor’s experience and leadership will be crucial for New York to secure qualification and aspire to another deep run in October.

With his blend of power, speed and elite defense, the Puerto Rican is not only a key part of the Mets’ present, but he is also building a historic legacy as one of the most complete shortstops in Major League history
