Francisco Lindor returns to New York Mets lineup after hand surgery

Shortstop Francisco Lindor will finally return to the New York Mets lineup. The player was included in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Clover Park. It is his first start in the Grapefruit League in this spring training season.

Recovery after surgery

Lindor spent the last few weeks recovering from surgery on the hamate bone in his left hand, a procedure that kept him out of exhibition games for much of the preseason.

In recent days, the player had begun to face real pitches during practice, a clear sign that his recovery was progressing positively.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza explained that the player’s return is part of the natural process of his rehabilitation.

“He followed his progression and now we’re getting to a point where it’s time for him to start playing with us,” said the coach.

A gradual return

The team’s plan for this game is for Lindor to play four innings and have two at-bats.

The shortstop will likely rest Monday before rejoining Grapefruit League activity Tuesday.

Preparation for the start of the season

The Mets will continue their preseason games over the next week, before Opening Day.

The team will begin the regular season on March 26 against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Citi Field.

Another headline that has already debuted

Lindor is not the only key player just beginning his participation in exhibition games. Outfielder Luis Robert Jr. also made his Grapefruit League debut this week.

The coaching staff decided to slow down his preparation to strengthen his legs and avoid physical risks before the start of the season.

With the progressive return of their main players, New York City FC is looking to be in the best possible shape for the start of the MLS campaign.
