Francisco Lindor makes history with New York Mets and emulates Darryl Strawberry

The fact that Francisco Lindor is not the undisputed number one for the New York Mets says a lot about the quality of their team. The five-time All-Star has hit 26 home runs in each of his last three seasons.

In 2025, he had 17 home runs and 46 RBIs in 87 games. However, Lindor was not at his best in June. The 31-year-old posted a .204 batting average with just four home runs and 10 RBIs, which partly explains why the Mets fell from first place in the National League East.

During the Saturday game against the New York Yankees, Francisco Lindor just stole his 100th base with the Mets.

He is one of six players with at least 100 home runs and 100 stolen bases in their careers with the Mets and emulates what was done by: Darryl Strawberry, David Wright, Howard Johnson, Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes.

Francisco Lindor’s great game in Mets’ victory over Yankees

New York Mets player Francisco Lindor stole second base after being walked in the bottom of the fifth inning. His star teammate, Juan Soto, struck out before Pete Alonso drove him in with a 382-foot home run to right-center field, which gave the Mets a 7-2 lead. Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon allowed seven runs (six earned) and five hits in five innings pitched, while former Yankee Frankie Montas allowed four runs in 5.2 innings for the Mets.

After the nine-inning game, the Mets beat the Yankees 12-6 at Citi Field, with the Metropolitans ensuring they will win the “Subway Series” after their 6-5 victory on Friday. There is only one game left, which will take place on Sunday, where Chris Devenski will start for NYM while for NYY it will be Max Fried, an experienced pitcher with a record of 10 wins and two losses to save the dignity of the Bronx team and avoid being swept by their neighborhood rival.

Brandon Nimmo’s Grand Slam against New York Yankees

If there is one image to illustrate the debacle of the New York Yankees, it would be the grand slam hit by Brandon Nimmo in the first inning of the game. His home run sent Starling Marte, Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso ahead. The embarrassment was suffered by Carlos Rodon, who was the losing pitcher in the game

The series is already in the hands of the Mets, but a high-stakes duel will force the Queens team to take the “Subway Series” by sweep. It will be a very important boost for the Mets in their quest to regain the lead in the National League East.
