Francisco Lindor delivers a record-breaking season, but the Mets’ playoff hopes remain in jeopardy

The New York Mets are still battling for a playoff spot, and every result in this final stretch counts-they’re going all in. Across MLB, teams are fighting just as fiercely, and it’s in this environment that Francisco Lindor made history, joining Juan Soto in an exclusive group.

Francisco Lindor’s historic campaign

There’s no doubt that Francisco Lindor is one of the league’s top offensive players, excelling both at the plate and on the basepaths. This is the second time the All-Star shortstop has achieved a 30-30 season (30 home runs and 30 stolen bases), the first being in 2023. However, he’s not alone in this feat. According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Lindor helped set a new MLB record for players in the 30-30 club.

“Francisco Lindor, second baseman of the New York Mets, becomes the fifth 30-30 player this season, the most in a single season in MLB history,” Nightengale said. “The club could grow with two more players by Sunday, as Julio Rodríguez needs two stolen bases and Pete Crow-Armstrong needs one home run to reach 30.”

Lindor’s 30th home run came at the perfect moment. Though the Mets had started strong in Chicago, the shortstop’s 408-foot solo shot off Shota Imanaga broke the game open.

Both Lindor and Soto have already left their mark with records this season, but the Mets need to maximize their talent to secure a postseason berth. Pitching struggles have been New York’s biggest weakness, holding them back in the NL Wild Card race. Still, with Lindor on fire, the Mets know they can compete against anyone.

Meanwhile, Pete Crow-Armstrong and Julio Rodríguez are strong candidates to join the prestigious 30-30 club. For now, Lindor is the latest member of a group that has already made MLB history.
