Francisco Lindor could be another blow for the Mets: Dodgers would be New York’s ‘salvation’

It seems that the bad news continues for Mets fans. They are still reeling from the departures of Pete Alonso, Edwin Diaz and Brandon Nimmo when another blow is looming for them, or at least that’s what is rumored. It is the possible departure of another of their favorites, Francisco Lindor.

Former Mets general manager Steve Phillips had revealed that the veteran has desires to go to the San Diego Padres, a franchise that would be willing to pay what he asks to arrive as a signing in the 2026 season. With this information, the version that New York would have as untouchable players Lindor and Juan Soto changes completely.

That Lindor is on the radar for last-minute trades is also because time caught up with the Mets and they have not managed to secure reinforcements after the losses of Alonso, Diaz and Nimmo. The team is in urgent need of reinforcements to fill those gaps and complement those that were missing, so it requires a minimum of four elements for the roster.

In this regard, the Dodgers appear on the scene. The Los Angeles organization would offer a proposal to New York for Lindor in exchange for a considerable amount of money and three players. This offer is being analyzed by David Stearns, president of operations for the Mets

The Dodgers would let go of Andy Pages, Tyler Glasnow and Freddie Freeman. Having those three players secure plus a figure that allows them to hire one more is what would seduce Stearns to accept the deal. The New Yorkers need a base squad urgently because they must build a competitive roster with Juan Soto, who has practically been left alone for the next campaign.

Padres’ offer for Francisco Lindor

Padres general manager A.J. Preller has expressed interest in acquiring Francisco Lindor. In exchange for his arrival, San Diego proposed to New York a combo that includes Mason Miller and Xander Bogaerts as trades. It’s another deal Stearns would consider, which is why he’s been quiet for the past week.

In terms of numbers, would the Mets lose a lot with Lindor’s departure?

The Mets have already seen their home run leader, Pete Alonso, leave. Juan Soto did not come close to the numbers that many expected of him last season. In addition, the offense in general was not much better, finishing 10th in average. Still, Francisco Lindor managed to finish second in batting average and third in home runs in 2025.
