He is one of the most dominating pitchers in The Majors during the regular season, but in the playoffs Framber Valdez has been another story as of late and in the first game of the 2024 postseason it also took a toll on the rest of the Houston Astros.
The Detroit Tigers took Game 1 of the Wild Card Series in the ‘space city’ taking advantage of what Valdez could not achieve in the mound. It was a 3-1 final score but it could have been worse as a three-run rally in the second inning might have been short.
Framber only lasted in the game four and a third innings in which he allowed three runs on seven hits, struck out three batters and walked a pair. The Dominican pitcher has struggled in the postseason and he seems to be a tight spot to maybe not recuperate himself to help his team.
The though stretch
Back in 2020, Framber Valdez’s postseason was good after having a 3-1 record in four games he appeared, three of those that were starts. He had an ERA of 1.88 with 26 strikes. Then in 2021he started five games but only managed a 1-1 record.
For 2022 he definitely had a better run, as he started four games and went undefeated with a 3-0 and a 1.44 ERA and 33 strikeouts. But 2023 was not pretty and for 2024 it has not been good either. Last year lost the three games he started and his ERA went through the roof.
It was a 9.00 ERA and he only struck out 17 batters and so far in 2024, if the Astros can’t manage to tie the Wild Card Series, he won’t be able to help his team come back to make a run at the World Series.
