The remarkable journey LeBron James has built over his 23-year career has been successful from beginning to end. His outstanding performances rank among the very best in recent years for the player who has captured four NBA championships.

It is still unclear whether there will be a 24th season for James. The player himself has been quite ambiguous when discussing his future and whether he will walk away or make one final run, either in Los Angeles or somewhere else outside the franchise.

Speculation continues to grow with each passing day. Some believe this could be LeBron’s final trip across NBA courts. Others, however, insist this will not be his last appearance in the league, suggesting instead that he could return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he might ultimately say goodbye to his extraordinary career.

LeBron is now 41 years old and has shown, despite the injuries he has dealt with during the 2025-26 season, that he still has plenty left in the tank. He remains the unquestioned leader of the Los Angeles squad, guiding the team as it battles for one of the top positions in the Western Conference standings.

Dwayne Wade delivers a verdict on LeBron James’ retirement

LeBron’s former teammate Dwayne Wade has shared his thoughts about when he believes James will finally retire, a topic that has many fans worried. According to Wade, everything will depend on the results achieved at the end of the 2025-26 season.

From Wade’s perspective, it may not simply be a matter of playing one more year. In fact, he believes the NBA legend could potentially extend his career even longer.

I think it depends on what happens.”…”I think it depends on what happens this year.

Dwayne Wade

Wade said when asked if this is LeBron’s final go-round, and added.

I think I think two,” Wade guessed. “I think he plays-I think he could play two more.

Dwayne Wade

It is worth remembering that Wade entered the NBA in 2003 and made his professional debut at 22 years old. Over the course of his long career, he produced countless memorable performances that helped define an era in basketball.

These are the teams Dwayne Wade played for during his professional career:

  • Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Miami Heat in two different stints
  • Chicago Bears

LeBron’s path to the NBA was somewhat different. Instead of playing college basketball, he leaped directly from high school into the league, quickly becoming one of the most celebrated prospects in the history of the sport.

Throughout his career, these are the teams where James has played:

  • Cleveland Cavaliers in two different stints
  • Miami Heat
  • Los Angeles Lakers

These are the franchises where the player widely known as the “King” has built his legacy. It is also important to remember that James will become a free agent once the current season comes to an end.

At the moment, it appears complicated for him to remain with the Lakers for another year, although in professional sports, anything can happen. That uncertainty is precisely why many observers believe that returning to the Cavaliers could become the final chapter of his legendary career in the NBA.
