In addition, the stress and cost of being the manager began to take its toll on him. Along the way, Shildt experienced chest pains, hair loss and poor sleeping habits.

In the end, the Padres fell to Chicago. With that, Shildt wanted to make it clear that he gave it his all and fought through the stress. “I don’t want people to think I left or that I wasn’t committed,” Shildt said. “No, that’s not the case. I tell myself, and I’ve done it since day one of this job, regardless of level, I’m going from bell to bell. I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.”
He continued: “But I can tell you that I was very sick. I just didn’t feel well. I was exhausted. And I wasn’t sleeping. And it’s nobody’s fault. It’s just day-to-day stress. But, you know, it’s just not healthy, man, and sometimes you just have to take care of yourself, you know?“. After losing to the Cubs, Shildt told general manager AJ Preller that he was looking to recover at home.
Bruce Bochy sounds like the new manager of the San Diego Padres
Two weeks ago, the Texas Rangers announced their separation from manager Bruce Bochy after a three-year deal that led the club to its first World Series title in franchise history. President of baseball operations Chris Young met with Bochy to discuss the future and the two mutually agreed to end their relationship. Texas offered Bochy another position within the organization.
The Rangers followed up their triumphant 2023 World Series campaign with two consecutive seasons without a winning record. They finished 81-81 in a 2025 season that concluded Sunday in Cleveland. Bochy’s name would now be mentioned with the San Diego Padres, whom he already commanded during a span of his career (1995-2006).
