Former Lakers player Lance Stephenson strongly condemns the sex toy trend in the WNBA: “I have kids”

Since late July 2025, the WNBA has witnessed a disturbing and troubling trend: the throwing of sex toys during games. Far from being spontaneous acts, these incidents appear to be orchestrated by a group linked to a cryptocurrency called Green Dildo Coin, which has claimed responsibility.

The most recent episode occurred on August 5 during the matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Los Angeles Sparks, when an object struck player Sophie Cunningham. This type of behavior has sparked outrage among players, coaches, and fans.

Lance Stephenson speaks out

One of the most vocal critics has been Lance Stephenson, former Lakers shooting guard, who expressed his disapproval in an interview with TMZ Sports. “I have kids,” he said. “Seeing that on the court would devastate me. A lot of kids go to these games. That kind of stuff needs to stop.”

Stephenson emphasized the growth of the WNBA and its efforts to attract more fans, especially families. “We’re supporting the girls, and the games are getting better. But if things like that keep happening, we won’t want to bring our kids. They need to stop it,” he added firmly.

Lance Stephenson’s career

With a ten-season career in the NBA, Stephenson became known for his energetic and versatile playing style. He was selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 40th pick in the 2010 draft and had his best years between 2012 and 2014, when the team reached the Eastern Conference semifinals.

During the 2018-2019 season, he played for the Los Angeles Lakers, sharing the locker room with LeBron James. Although the Lakers didn’t make the playoffs that year, Stephenson made his mark with solid averages and a consistent presence on the court.

Stephenson in the BIG3 league

Currently, Stephenson plays for the Miami 305 team in the BIG3 league, alongside stars like Michael Beasley, Mario Chalmers, and Reggie Evans, under the leadership of Michael Cooper. In this league, he’s had intense moments, including a confrontation with Dwight Howard, showing that his competitive spirit remains strong.

Stephenson’s stance on the WNBA incidents reflects the commitment of many athletes to uphold respect and safety in sports. His message is clear: basketball must remain a safe space for everyone, especially families and children.
