Jerry Jones may be one of the wealthiest owners in professional sports, but even billionaires can find themselves in a controversy over cheap seat tickets. The Dallas Cowboys owner was mentioned by the former head coach of the team, Wade Phillips, for what seems to be a big seating mistake.
Jones is the owner of the NFL’s most valuable franchise, estimated at $13 billion by Forbes, and even has a reported $250 million superyacht, but now he is under scrutiny over 50-yard tickets. The controversy started on Sunday Night Football, with Phillips in attendance at the Cowboys’ home in the loss against the Minnesota Vikings.
Wade Phillips calls out Jerry Jones on social media
Wade Phillips, who was the Cowboys’ head coach from 2007 to 2010, went on to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on the ‘great 50-yard tickets’.The longtime coach mentioned that Jones promised him 50-yard-line seats. However, appeared to be far from that premium view.
Jerry said he had 50-yard line seats for me-I’m not so sure.
Phillips wrote, and posted an image of his view from the upper sections of AT&T Stadium.
The post got noticed by the fans, and that started the snowball or irony against the billionaire who failed to give a little bit back to a former defensive coordinator and head coach who served the team and took them to the Playoffs on multiple occasions.
While this is a sarcastic and humorous comment, Jones has not publicly responded to Phillips’ remark, but maybe it is because right now the Cowboys are in a really bad place, and his attention goes to more important things, like answering questions from fans and the media.
Cowboys on the field problems
The timing of the seating controversy couldn’t have been worse for Jones. The Cowboys lost to the Vikings and have a 6-7- 1 record, and with just a 1% chance of making the Playoffs.
They need to catch the Philadelphia Eagles and win the NFC East, an image that suddenly feels like a Mission Impossible movie. Their defense has a lot of issues, and the offense, even if one of the best in the NFL, cannot do all the work.
Even Jerry Jones mentioned that the window is almost closed for them to make it into the promised land.
I don’t know how to describe a miracle.”… “I know that it would take very tight circumstances to get us in, and we expected that. We thought we’d have to win out to have a little room, but not a lot. Now, of course, I know how to count.
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said.
Whether the Cowboys’ playoff push works or not, this little misunderstanding has already added another chapter to the long saga that is Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.
