Former Boston radio personality Rich Shertenlieb made waves at Super Bowl 2025 media day in New Orleans, where he took a bold approach in questioning Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
Rather than focusing on game-related topics, Shertenlieb used the opportunity to poke fun at the Chiefs‘ alleged referee favoritism, a controversy that has been brewing throughout the NFL playoffs.
Shertenlieb, best known for his time on 98.5 The Sports Hub and 100.7 WXLZ, wasted no time stirring controversy.
“Patrick, for your whole career, you’ve had so many great people help you win. So, who is your favorite ref?” Shertenlieb asked.
Mahomes, keeping his composure, laughed off the jab.
“That’s hilarious,” he responded.

“All the refs are great, man. They do the best they can. We go out there and play the game the right way.”
Unwilling to let the joke die, Shertenlieb followed up: “Is there one you give a Christmas card to possibly?”
Mahomes, remaining unbothered offered another short rebuttal.
“Not that I can remember,” Mahomes said. “I’ll have to ask my teammates to try and figure it out.”
Shertenlieb also trolled Travis Kelce
Shertenlieb then turned his attention to Travis Kelce, bringing up both officiating controversies and his relationship with Taylor Swift in one shot.
“Travis, what do you love more? Taylor Swift or phantom 15-yard roughing the passer penalties in the playoffs?”
Kelce wasn’t having it. Clearly uninterested in engaging, he dismissed the question entirely.
“That’s a good question. Anybody else?”
The topic of officiating favoring the Chiefs has been a dominant storyline leading up to the Super Bowl, with some fans and analysts accusing the NFL of ensuring Kansas City’s continued dominance.
Even NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has had to address allegations of biased officiating.
Shertenlieb‘s media day stunt comes at a turbulent time in his career. After nearly two decades as a co-host of The Toucher & Rich Show, he unexpectedly parted ways with Fred Toucher, leading to his move to 100.7 WXLZ under iHeart Radio.
However, his new gig was short-lived due to mass layoffs at the station.
