As Travis Hunter prepares for the 2025 NFL Draft, speculation continues to swirl around which position he should focus on in the NFL.
The two-way star from Colorado, who dominated both wide receiver and cornerback in college, is projected to be a top-five pick.
Rod Woodson’s message to Travis Hunter
While the Heisman Trophy winner’s dual-threat potential has captured attention, former NFL standout Rod Woodson believes Hunter should concentrate on one position: cornerback.
Woodson, a 17-year veteran who played defensive back in the NFL, recently shared his thoughts with TMZ Sports, advising Hunter to focus solely on cornerback in the pros.
“I just think if you are burning candles at both ends of the stick, he could play well, but the likelihood that he’s going to be great at both… that’s not likely. Not in the National Football League,” Woodson explained.

Hunter’s ability to excel on both offense and defense at the collegiate level has been widely praised, but Woodson pointed out that the demands of the NFL would make it difficult for Hunter to maintain high-level performance in both roles.
“He can be that All-Pro, next generational corner,”Woodson added, emphasizing that focusing on defense would allow Hunter to reach his full potential.
Woodson also highlighted the scarcity of top-tier cornerbacks in the NFL, suggesting that specializing in the position could be more lucrative for Hunter than pursuing a career as a wide receiver.
“It’s hard to find young, dynamic cornerbacks that come out and can shut those guys down,” Woodson said.
While Hunter’s versatility has been one of his defining traits, Woodson believes that, like his mentor Deion Sanders, Hunter could still occasionally contribute on offense, but his primary focus should be on defense.
With the 2025 Draft quickly approaching, it remains to be seen which position Hunter will ultimately choose to pursue in the NFL, but Woodson’s advice could play a key role in shaping his future.
Hunter’s career trajectory is already set in motion, as he recently signed with Lil Wayne’sYoung Money APAA Sports for on-field representation, marking a significant step in his transition to the professional ranks.
As the football world eagerly awaits Hunter’s decision, all eyes will be on his NFL journey in the coming months.
