What a few hours it has been in the boxing world. The fight between Floyd Schofield and Shakur Stevenson was cancelled. This fight was going to take place as the undercard of Bivol against Beterbiev in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this coming Saturday, February 22
This fight was going to be for the WBC lightweight title, but the reason for the drop is due to an illness suffered by Floyd Schofield at the last minute. The 22-year-old boxer pointed to Shakur’s team for poisoning him, something that generated a lot of theories and gossip on social media
How would this have supposedly happened?
Floyd Schofield’s father had no problem pointing out to Shakur Stevenson’s team that his son was intoxicated, as he argued that SNAC along with a Stevenson massage therapist were responsible for his son’s illness
They generated quite a stir and quickly received a warning of a defamation lawsuit from Stevenson’s representative, to the point that they ended up deleting the post from X“We wish Shakur and his team success. I hope we can fight in the near future. All is forgiven,” wrote Shakur’s team on X. Leaving all those attempts at accusations there
Later Floyd’s father gave an update on his son on Instagram and lamented the cancellation of the fight: “I’m sorry we couldn’t share the ring. Hopefully in the future. We don’t believe you were involved in this. We still respect you and wish you the best in your next fight,” he wrote.
New opponent for Shakur Stevenson
Shakur will have to get all that out of his head, as he has a new opponent to defend his WBC lightweight championship against next Saturday, February 22, it is Josh Padley, who would be replacing Schofield.
So they will surely also give us a very good fight and the Briton will have to live up to the expectations of what many expected to see this weekend.
