Floyd Mayweather sues luxury car dealership, claims he was deceived

Former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, known for his unmatched skill inside the ring and undefeated professional record, is now battling outside of it. Mayweather has filed a lawsuit against a luxury car dealership, claiming he was deceived during a high-end vehicle purchase earlier this year.

The lawsuit, filed in Las Vegas, accuses the dealership of “deceptive trade practices” and “misrepresentation,” among other allegations. According to court documents, Mayweather purchased multiple luxury vehicles from the dealer in July, including a rare 2018 Mercedes Maybach G650 Landaulet.

Mayweather’s multi-million-dollar purchase

Mayweather, who retired undefeated and is widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, alleges that he spent a total of $2.25 million on four vehicles. While initially satisfied with the deal, he claims he later discovered troubling information that left him feeling deceived and frustrated.

The boxer explained that he tried to return all four vehicles to the dealership. He was successful in returning three but encountered significant issues with the last one, the exclusive Maybach Landaulet.

I think he took [three] cars back, but his one car he didn’t want to take back, which was the [2018] Maybach Landolet. He didn’t want to take that back. So I had my team and my business partners do their homework on the car. Come to find out the car was in lawsuits and some parts were changed on the car.

He charged me $1.2 million. He told me he paid $1.1. I was okay with that. But then I did my homework. I did my research, come to find out he only paid, if I’m not mistaken, $728,000 for the car. So he beat me out of over half a million dollars.

Mayweather acknowledged that businesses are expected to make a profit, but he believes this particular deal crossed the line into exploitation. He insists that the dealership deliberately took advantage of his trust and high-profile status.

Mayweather’s legal claims

According to Mayweather’s attorney, the dealership sold the vehicle even though it was not in proper legal condition to be on the road.

Defendant knew, or should have known, that the Vehicle lacked the required title, odometer, certification, DOT/EPA compliance, customs clearance, and inspection certificates, all of which are material to the legality of the sale,” the attorney stated in court filings.

Mayweather’s legal team alleges that the dealership’s actions were “fraudulent, deliberate, and malicious.” Based on these claims, they are seeking punitive damages in addition to financial compensation for the loss incurred.

As the case unfolds, Mayweather emphasized his primary goal is fairness rather than confrontation.

I just want to be treated fair.

The lawsuit is still in its early stages, and the dealership has yet to issue a public response. It is expected that the legal battle will continue to develop, potentially revealing new details as both sides present their arguments. Mayweather, who built his fortune through a legendary boxing career, is now fighting to protect it outside the ring.
