Floyd Mayweather calls out Jake Paul: Why is the former youtuber dodging him?

Jake Paul isn’t exactly a conventional boxer. He didn’t grind through amateur tournaments or rise through the ranks like most pros. Instead, he built his career on viral moments, YouTube drama, and high-profile fights against aging legends. But no matter how you feel about him, the fact remains-people are still talking about him.And one name that keeps circling back into the conversation?Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather, now 48, has remained undefeated throughout his career, taking down some of the biggest names in boxing history. But in recent years, he’s dabbled in exhibition fights, including one in 2021 against Jake’s older brother, Logan Paul. That fight left fans wondering-would Floyd ever step in the ring with Jake?

“We offered it 10 or 20 times”

Fast forward to 2025, and Mayweather finally gave some insight into what’s been happening behind the scenes. In a recent interview promoting his new supplement line, the boxing icon didn’t mince words.

“We offered Jake Paul the fight probably 10 or 20 times, and he turned us down,” Mayweather told US Weekly.“So that’s bulls-.”

This came just weeks after he made a separate appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he casually brushed off a potential Jake Paul fight with a four-word response: “At 48, too easy.”

Jake Paul, unsurprisingly, wasn’t about to let that slide.

Jake Paul fires back

After Mayweather’s comments started circulating, Jake responded during a vlog with his brother Logan. In the clip, he countered Floyd’s claims, suggesting that the real reason the fight hasn’t happened is because of a strict weight limit.

“He wouldn’t sign though,”Jake said.“He said I have to weigh 160. It’s not even physically possible.”

That’s where things get interesting. Jake Paul weighed in at 227 lbs in his last fight against Mike Tyson. Floyd Mayweather? He spent his career fighting at around 150 lbs. That’s a 70+ pound difference, making an officially sanctioned fight nearly impossible.

But does that mean it can’t happen?

Mayweather’s plan B: Exhibition fight

Mayweather had an alternative in mind-one that would bypass weight class restrictions altogether.

“Well… we could do an exhibition. That’s easy work, super easy,” he said in the US Weekly interview.

It was a not-so-subtle dig at Jake Paul’s fight history, especially considering that Paul’s biggest win came against 58-year-old Mike Tyson.

“Mike Tyson was a 60-year-old man,”Mayweather added. “He’s an old man. Mike Tyson is enjoying his life. It is what it is.”

But if an exhibition is so easy, why hasn’t it happened? That’s still up for debate.

So, will we ever see this fight?

Despite all the talk, there’s still no official deal on the table. And while both fighters keep pointing fingers, it seems like they have different ideas about what kind of fight they actually want.

Mayweather wants an exhibition. Jake wants a full-on sanctioned bout. The weight gap makes the latter nearly impossible, and Paul doesn’t seem too interested in playing by Mayweather’s rules.

For now, the fight remains a “what if.” But if we’ve learned anything from boxing in the YouTube era, it’s that money talks. And when there’s enough of it on the table, even the most unlikely matchups can suddenly become reality.
