Florida’s 464-pound defensive tackle Desmond Watson makes a decision to lose weight before playing in the NFL

The 2025 NFL Draft is coming up soon and there are plenty of players and teams that are being watched with intrigue.

One player who is getting a lot of attention is Desmond Watson, a defensive tackle who stands 1.98 meters tall and weighs 464 pounds, or 210.5 kilograms, making him the heaviest player ever drafted in the history of the league.

At the Florida 2025 Pro Day, he was one of the biggest surprises of the day. Although Desmond Watson remained silent, not speaking to the media after his workouts in Gainesville on Thursday, his Gators teammates and coaches were happy to praise him, highlighting his achievements.

Will Watson lose weight?

Watson was recently asked about what steps he is going to take to shed weight, with many wondering if he could actually be too big to have a genuine impact in the NFL.

“Stopping while driving,” Watson said when asked about bad habits he’s tried to shed. “My biggest thing is keep going, get to where I need to get. There are stores and a lot of temptations. That’s helped me immensely: Don’t go inside the gas station. Pay at the pump. Because inside, it’s snacks and all types of things like that. Don’t pull over. If you’re on the highway, stay on the highway until you get where you’ve got to go.”

Watson also revealed that he has had concerns about his weight throughout college and is trying to act on it.

“It’s been like my same problem – not problem, but my same concern throughout college,” Watson said of his desire to drop weight.

“I’m getting more in depth, getting a better grasp of the things I need to do to be successful at the next level. It’s been interesting. I’ve learned a lot about myself in this process.”
