Flick, sent off: he will not be at the Bernabeu and celebrates the victory with three arm gestures

Barcelona won, in extremis, the match against Girona, but lost an important man for the next LaLiga match: Hansi Flick. The German coach will not sit on the bench at the Santiago Bernabeu: on the 26th, there is a Clasico. The Blaugrana coach saw the double yellow card. He could also be punished with more matches for the sleeve cuts with which he celebrated Ronald Araujo’s goal

The former Bayern coach applauded in the 91st minute of the match near the touchline. The coach said he was only encouraging Frenkie de Jong. Gil Manzano showed him a yellow card because he interpreted that he was complaining about one of his decisions. That card caused the Catalan coach to become indignant and show his anger, with words and gestures. The referee then showed him the second: he was sent off

But Flick did not go to the dressing room. There were a couple of minutes left in the match and he was able to see how Ronald Araujo, who played as a midfielder, scored, in injury time, the agonizing winning goal for Barca. The German’s reaction was to make three obscene gestures

The Catalan coach will not therefore sit on the bench at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday 26, but it remains to be seen whether he will be punished with more matches for not going to the dressing room and staying on the field despite being sent off and for the obscene gestures with which he celebrated the Uruguayan international’s goal.

Flick’s second expulsion

This is not Flick’s first expulsion with Barcelona. In December 2024, he was sent off in the match against Betis at the Benito Villamarin. The German coach complained about the penalty awarded to Barcelona, after a tackle by De Jong on Vitor Roque, and the referee showed him the card.
