Coco Gauff celebrated her first Thanksgiving at her new home by making sweet potato pie for her guests, as the 2023 US Open champion brought her inner circle to her property in Florida just weeks after winning WTA Finals.
Located in Delray Beach, approximately 52 miles north of Miami, the home offers her far more convenience for her training options and schedules and it immediately paid rewards as she beat Zheng Qinwen to win the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia on November 9.
So now she’s preparing to celebrate “Friendsgiving”, which is the same as Thanksgiving but for friends to gather around instead of family, on November 25 and she did so by whipping up a treat for them.
“Made sweet potato pie for the first time,” Gauff wrote via Instagram. The 20-year-old also added, “I’m always gonna be the older cousin that invites herself to be in the tiktok.”
Gauff reflects on banana bread blunder
Her cooking skills continue to grow one year on from when she decided to bake banana bread for her companions and family as she also dabbles into salmon teriyaki bowls and pasta with chicken.
And she is highly motivated to improve her culinary talents after she admitted the banana bread didn’t land as she would have hoped.
“The bananas were like, too ripe, because you’re supposed to wait,” Gauff said as she reflected on her effort. “I think I waited too long, so I threw them away.
“I tried to freestyle it, without it and that came out awful. I tried to make it for my fitness coach for his birthday, but then when I tested it, I was [like], ‘I can not give him this.’
“I was really disappointed in that, because banana bread is what I’m good at. I just thought that I would be good enough to maybe, you know, skip a couple ingredients.”
