The 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup will be held in North America, with the United States, Canada and Mexico hosting the tournament. It will be the first time that 48 teams will compete in the tournament, which will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026. FIFA is preparing for a historic change that will undoubtedly cause controversy.

This was confirmed by its president Gianni Infantino, who revealed that the final, which will be played at the 82,500-capacity MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, will have a Super Bowl-style halftime show with “a list of artists” that will conclude with Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Phil Harvey.

He did so through his Instagram account where he published the following text: “I can confirm the first break at a FIFA World Cup final in New York, New Jersey, in partnership with Global Citizen. This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and an appropriate spectacle for the world’s biggest sporting event,” he said.

In the same post, he also announced that “we also talked about how FIFA will take over Times Square for the final weekend of the FIFA World Cup in 2026, both during the bronze medal match and during the final. It will be two incredible matches, with some of the best players in the world, and what better way to celebrate them than in the historic Times Square in New York City.”

“Of course, I want to thank the CEO of Global Citizen, Hugh Evans, and his incredible team for helping us organize these amazing shows.

I also want to thank Chris Martin and Phil Harvey of Coldplay, who will work with us at FIFA to finalize the list of artists who will perform during the halftime show, as well as in Times Square,” he concluded.
