Fierce criticism of the Miami Dolphins’ planning: Is it a team without direction?

The 2025 NFL season has not yet begun, but the Miami Dolphins are already at the center of a media storm.

The criticism is not only directed at the team’s performance, but now focuses directly on the team’s hierarchy, especially its owner, Stephen Ross, who is facing increasing pressure over what many see as a leadership crisis.

Miami Dolphins without a clear direction

The Dolphins have been the subject of multiple controversial decisions in recent months: unexpected trades, lack of key reinforcements and an apparent disconnect between management and the coaching staff. All of this has led analysts and fans to question whether the team has a clear direction or is simply improvising on the fly.

The situation is compounded by last season’s poor start (2-6), which exposed the structural weaknesses of the team. For many, that poor start was an opportunity to start a deep rebuild. However, the lack of strong moves in that direction has generated frustration and confusion.

Stephen Ross in the eye of the storm

Stephen Ross, the owner of the team since 2009, has been singled out as the main culprit for the current chaos. Although he has invested millions in the team and the stadium, his management has been inconsistent. Sporting decisions seem to respond more to impulses than to a long-term strategy.

According to Athlon Sports, Ross has had the opportunity to step in and redirect the team’s course, but has chosen to remain on the sidelines or make decisions that do not address the underlying problems. This lack of leadership has left the Dolphins stuck in a cycle of mediocrity from which they cannot escape.

An aging roster with no projection in the Dolphins

Another major problem is the composition of the roster. The team has several veterans who are no longer performing at the expected level, such as Calais Campbell, Raheem Mostert and Terron Armstead. Instead of opting for a rebuild, the Dolphins have tried to compete with a roster that does not seem to have enough talent to aspire to the playoffs.

Even star players like Tyreek Hill, who recently signed a lucrative extension, may not be part of the team’s future if they ultimately decide to rebuild. The possibility of trading him has been mentioned as a viable option to obtain valuable picks in the Draft.

The urgency for a change of approach in the Miami Dolphins

Experts agree that the Dolphins must make bold decisions: sell valuable assets, free up salary space and bet on the development of young talent. However, the lack of a clear vision from ownership has prevented those steps from being taken.

Ross must decide whether he wants to continue to bet on a illusion of competitiveness or whether he is willing to pay the cost of a real rebuild. Otherwise, the team will remain stuck in a gray area: too good to sink, but not good enough to compete for a title.

The beginning of the end for the Dolphins or a chance to be reborn?

The current situation for the Miami Dolphins is critical, and the focus is on Stephen Ross. His leadership, or lack thereof, could define the immediate future of the franchise. If there is no change of direction soon, the Dolphins risk remaining a team without identity, direction and, most worryingly, without hope. The fans deserve better. And the time to act is now.
