Fever’s Sophie Cunningham revealed her “non-negotiables” in dating and gave hints about her professional future

Sophie Cunningham was having a solid first season with the Indiana Fever. She averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 30 games and quickly became a team icon and earned the support of fans.

However, in August, Cunningham tore the LCM in her right knee during a victory over the Connecticut Sun, just one day after turning 29. And while she doesn’t know if she will continue with the Fever, there is one thing she is sure of: her “non-negotiables” in dating.

Sophie details what she looks for in a partner

The Indiana star signed with the team as a free agent on a one-year, $100,000 contract after six years with the Phoenix Mercury, and her play and character stole the hearts of Fever fans.

Even after having to end her season due to her knee injury, she continued to stay in touch with them through her podcast “Show Me Something,” which she hosts with West Wilson.

In the most recent episode, Sophie answered some questions from fans. One of them asked about her age limits when looking for a partner. West jumped in and replied that he wouldn’t want to date someone five years younger than him, as that’s the age difference between him and his brother: “No one younger than my brother,” he explained.

Sophie quickly agreed with Wilson, saying, “I feel like the maturity level is still just different,” and adding, “I think only older. I’ve only dated older.“

She was also asked about her future and whether she plans to coach in the WNBA, to which she replied that the lifestyle of that job does not align with what she wants: “I want to play as long as I can. Maybe another 8 to 10 years, who knows? I would love to coach, but I also think like I want to get married and I want to have a family and the life of coaching is not so ideal for all that.”

In this regard, Sophie will have to make an important decision while recovering from her injury. Despite her desire to continue displaying her talent on the court, her future with the Fever is uncertain as she has become a free agent and, in Indiana, only Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Makayla Timpson have contracts through 2026.

The league’s collective bargaining agreement expires on October 31, and following salary improvements, Sophie could benefit. However, there are no official confirmations in this regard.
