Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark are not only two great friends, they are also two of the five injured for the rest of the Indiana Fever season. And both on and off the court, they steal the show.
Stephanie White’s team has had to adjust as Indiana has made its way through the Playoffs, but fans are following the two stars closely and were surprised by the 29-year-old point guard’s comments about her 23-year-old teammate.
Sophie’s joke to CC
Clark had to put her second year in the WNBA and Fever on hold because of her quadriceps and groin injury before the All-Star Game. She played only 13 games with the team.
Then, last August 17, an unfortunate tear of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her right knee in a game against the Connecticut Sun ended Sophie‘s first Fever season after 30 games played.
Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson and Chloe Bibby round out the injured list for the remainder of the Fever’s year.
Despite this, their bond has strengthened, leading Cunningham to dedicate some amusing words to her as he stopped by the “Old Man and Three” podcast:
“She’s just a big kid… she is so phenomenal and so elite at her craft. A generational talent. I don’t think I have to hype her up anymore” admitted Sophie.
However, after admitting that the two have a “fun relationship”, she added: “She loves hard but at the end of the day she’s like one of my little cousins. She’s the age of them, she acts like them. I’m just like, ‘Dude, you’re a dweeb. You’re the biggest dork i’ve probably ever met. And just somehow you know how to shoot form far out, and you’re really great at passing,’” Cunningham joked.
Meanwhile, her teammates are preparing to break the 1-1 tie left by their recent 90-68 loss to the Aces. Back at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse for both Game 3 and Game 4, they will look to cement their passage to the Playoff Finals on Friday the 26th and Sunday the 28th respectively.
