Fever’s defensive anchor: Caitlin Clark teammate moves up franchise blocks list

The Indiana Fever took the court Thursday night for a key road matchup against the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center.

Riding a two-game winning streak, the Fever were eager to build momentum against the WNBA’s newest franchise. And while Caitlin Clark continues to dominate headlines, another star quietly made franchise history.

Aliyah Boston, the Fever’s standout forward and two-time All-Star, reached a significant career milestone in the first half of Thursday’s game.

By recording three blocks before halftime, Boston moved into fourth place on the Fever’s all-time blocks list, surpassing former center Teaira McCowan. The team proudly announced the achievement on social media, calling her the “protector of the paint” and celebrating her consistent defensive impact.

The unsung core of Indiana’s resurgence

Boston’s rise to the upper ranks of the Fever’s defensive records comes as no surprise to fans who have followed her journey since being drafted first overall in 2023. She was named Rookie of the Year after a stellar debut season and has only grown more effective in her sophomore campaign.

Entering Thursday’s game, Boston was averaging 13.5 points on 59.4% shooting, along with 7.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game in just under 30 minutes. Her ability to dominate the paint on both ends of the floor has been a crucial component of Indiana’s recent success, particularly as Caitlin Clark continues adjusting to the professional level.

Although Clark garners most of the media attention-and rightfully so given her game-changing talent-Boston has quietly become the engine that keeps the Fever balanced. Her defense allows the team to take more risks on the perimeter, and her passing out of the post keeps Indiana’s offense fluid.

The chemistry between Clark and Boston is improving with every game, as Clark often looks for Boston on the pick-and-roll or in high-low actions.

Boston’s leadership, poise, and presence have made her more than just a statistical contributor. She’s become the foundation of the team’s identity, bringing consistency to a young roster with playoff hopes.

With her move up the franchise block leaderboard, Boston has added yet another accomplishment to a growing résumé. But beyond the stats, she represents what the Fever are building: a balanced, team-first approach that blends star power with grit and defense. If Indiana is to continue climbing the WNBA standings this season, Aliyah Boston’s impact will be just as vital as Caitlin Clark’s highlights.
