Fermin Lopez is having a spectacular season in every sense. The Andalusian midfielder is one of the most decisive players in the Barcelona squad, with 10 goals and 11 assists, and has been rewarded for his talent and commitment with a contract extension until June 2031. The agreement was reached on January 30, but was formalized on Friday at the Spotify Camp Nou in an event presided over by Joan Laporta

Fermin Lopez reviewed the hard road he has traveled to reach the first team of Barcelona, a process that, as he explained, has served to learn and mature. “Everything I have experienced has prepared me for this moment. The child who came from El Campillo dreamed of playing for Barca and now I hope to be here for many years,” said the visibly happy midfielder.

The footballer acknowledged that he has never had it easy and that difficulties have helped him improve as a player. He also admitted that he would like to take on greater responsibilities in the future. “Being captain would be a dream. If it comes, I will be very happy, because I am a Barcelona fan since I was a child and I live by and for Barcelona,” he admitted.

I’ve never had it easy, everything has always been very difficult for me and that helped me to learn and improve

In fact, the midfielder admitted that, despite his youth, he does not rule out a lifetime as a Cule. “Hopefully I can be here for many years and finish my career here. It would be a pleasure and a dream,” he said. He also admitted that his departure to Linares was not easy, but it was important. “Now, in the game, I’m calmer with the ball and I’m more mature in decision-making,” he said. As for the offers he considered in the summer, the youth player reiterated several times that he never thought about leaving Barcelona.

Champions League

Fermin admitted that he is very excited about the season. “We have a good team, we are a family, we have returned to the Spotify Camp Nou… We have a beautiful campaign ahead of us and hopefully we can make history. Obviously the Champions League is everyone’s dream. It’s been many years since we won it and last year it slipped away by very little. We are working for it, we have the ability to win it and hopefully it will be so,” he said. On the other hand, he referred to the departure of Dro. “These are decisions that one makes. I don’t want to focus on that. He was a good friend, but he has decided that and we hope he does well.”

The midfielder, who joined Barça in the summer of 2016 when he was 13 years old, is one of the players with the greatest present and future in the Blaugrana squad, and the Catalan club has extended his contract by two more seasons (until 2031).
