The FedEx Cup has become one of the defining features of modern golf, offering not just prestige but also one of the sport’s largest financial prizes. Since its introduction in 2007, the PGA Tour’s season-long competition has produced a list of champions who have often gone on to define their eras.

The format, which culminates each year in the Tour Championship, tests consistency, resilience, and the ability to perform under immense pressure when the stakes are highest.

The very first FedEx Cup was won by Tiger Woods in 2007, cementing his reputation as the game’s dominant force. Woods collected the trophy again in 2009, making him the only multiple winner of the Cup until Rory McIlroy began his march toward history.

Vijay Singh broke through in 2008, while other early winners such as Jim Furyk in 2010 and Bill Haas in 2011 showcased how the competition could crown both established stars and those ready for a breakthrough moment.

A look at every FedEx Cup champion by year

From 2007 onward, the FedEx Cup has produced a diverse list of winners. After Woods‘ initial triumph, Vijay Singh took the title in 2008, followed by Woods reclaiming it the next season. Jim Furyk‘s win in 2010 was remembered for his gritty consistency, and Bill Haas‘ victory in 2011 included one of the most iconic playoff shots in Tour history, when he splashed from a water hazard to stay alive.

Brandt Snedeker claimed the Cup in 2012, while Henrik Stenson made history in 2013 as the first European player to win. Billy Horschel‘s surprising run in 2014 added another layer of unpredictability to the event, and Jordan Spieth captured the crown in 2015 during a season that marked him as one of golf’s rising stars.

The years that followed saw the rise of players who would become synonymous with the modern Tour. Rory McIlroy won his first Cup in 2016, then added two more in 2019 and 2022, making him the only golfer to capture three FedEx Cup titles. Justin Thomas took the honors in 2017, followed by Justin Rose in 2018, who became the second European winner. Dustin Johnson dominated the 2020 season to claim his FedEx Cup, and Patrick Cantlay outlasted the competition in 2021 with one of the steadiest playoff runs in recent memory.

Viktor Hovland lifted the trophy in 2023, becoming the third European player to do so, and Scottie Scheffler earned the Cup in 2024 after a season that solidified his status as the top ranked player in the world. Each name on the list not only reflects a strong season but also a player who managed to peak when the Tour Championship demanded it most.
