Although he was left out of the most recent Brazil call-up, Neymar made the most of the last FIFA international window by training intensely and returning to Santos FC in top form. His hard work is already paying off, as he recently recorded another assist in his team’s latest match.
Against Remo, the bottom team in the Brasileirão, Neymar led Santos to a crucial win that helped them climb out of the relegation zone. Before halftime, he delivered a brilliant lobbed pass over the defense for Thaciano to finish and open the scoring.
Chants aimed at Neymar to provoke him
During the match, Remo fans also targeted the Brazilian star with chants in an attempt to provoke him.
The supporters sang “You’re not going to the World Cup” at Neymar – a moment of fan taunting that likely had little effect, given the hostile atmospheres he has faced throughout his career.
The reality, however, is clear: fans know exactly what could hurt him most. Neymar faces a very real chance of missing the World Cup, which could represent his final opportunity to play on the sport’s biggest stage.
