When 1587 Prime opened its doors in downtown Kansas City under the co-ownership of NFL stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, it was billed as a high-end steakhouse designed to merge elite cuisine with the spirit of Chiefs fandom.
From its launch, 1587 Prime made headlines for its opulent décor, two-floor layout inside the Loews Hotel and attention-grabbing details such as a “ketchup flight” directly tied to Mahomes‘ steak-dipping habits.
Reviewers noted the space was plush, the staff polished, and the menu ambitious, with premium Wagyu steaks starting at around $59 and going up to $345 for a 40-ounce tomahawk.
Reservations dropped almost instantly. But now, the early consensus from diners is anything but glowing.
Their restaurant debuted on September 17 and promised a combination of celebrity appeal and culinary excellence.
Guests raise concerns: value, taste, experience
Now that the restaurant has welcomed diners, some are taking aim at the practical results. A Yelp reviewer commented: “It was good, but I think it could’ve been at least 40 % cheaper.”
Diners quickly noticed that 1587 Prime comes with a steep price tag. Sides such as grilled carrots, truffle fries, broccolini, and sautéed spinach each cost $16, while a twice-baked potato is priced at $24.
The main courses carry an even higher cost as a Delmonico steak sells for $135, a 16-ounce boneless ribeye for $165, and seafood lovers will pay $63 for roasted branzino or $76 for twin lobster tails.
One user criticized the economic divide, writing on X: “Extremely overpriced items that the common folk save up to buy to further the divide between the owning class and the working class, and then complain about gas, groceries, etc.”
Another said plainly, “STRICT DRESS CODE AND HIGH PRICES! WAY TO CATER TO THE ELITE.”
Despite some negative reviews, 1587 Prime has maintained a strong Google rating, reflecting that many patrons appreciate the atmosphere, celebrity connection, and high-quality dining experience.
Travis Kelce announces off-field NFL venture
While excelling on the field in his 13th NFL season, Kelce recently shared exciting news about a business venture.
He revealed a partnership with JANA Partners as an investor in Six Flags, with a particular focus on Cedar Point in Ohio, close to Kansas City.
“To all my fellow theme park and amusement park lovers,” Kelce wrote online, “I have some exciting news!!!
“Couldn’t pass up the opportunity to continue the tradition and make Cedar Point and Six Flags even more special for the next generation of families!”
Kelce added, “So crazy to even imagine this is real, but you gotta love it when life comes full circle.”
On the football field, Kelce remains a major contributor for the Chiefs, recording two touchdowns and 375 receiving yards on 31 receptions.
His performance continues to rank him among the top fantasy tight ends, currently sitting fifth in points-per-reception leagues.
