Fans react as LeBron James hits out at NBA insider

Fans have reacted to LeBron James‘ latest online controversy as the Los Angeles Lakers star fires back at an NBA insider, who had claimed basketball lovers wouldn’t be interested in listening to a detailed discussion about the sport.

Brian Windhorst, affiliated with ESPN, made the comment about the 40-year-old’s Mind the Game podcast by suggesting NBA fans would lack the patience for the show, and now the four-time champion has fired back.

“Long ways from being done,” LeBron posted online, revealing the show is coming back. “Sucks they have to listen to 2 guys who know nothing about basketball talk about basketball! Sorry @SteveNash.”

LeBron re-launched the show with Steve Nash, the two-time MVP and eight-time All-Star who most recently coached the Brooklyn Nets from 2020-22, and fans have received it well, earning thousands of views online.

For example, a recent episode centered around the Lakers’ Luka Doncic recently broke over a million views. So it suggests Windhorst got his assessment very wrong, and LeBron made sure to poke fun at that – much to the delight of NBA fans.

One user commented on X.com, formerly Twitter, “Bron really at war with Brian Windhorst.”

A second said, “And here I was thinking Brian Windhorst and LeBron were friends.”

And a third noted, “Finding out Bron really dislikes Brian Windhorst has been hilarious.”

Whilst a fourth concluded, “Brian Windhorst getting dragged lol. All them years of meatriding just for Buddy to slander you on a pod lmaooooo.”

LeBron calls Windhorst “weird’

LeBron hasn’t just had this singular flash in the pan moment with Windhorst either, who worked covering news for the Cleveland Cavaliers – the team James played for from 2003-2010 and 2014-2018.

“I’ve seen Brian Windhorst on one of these shows not too long ago,” Lebron said to The Pat McAfee Show; before colding adding, “This guy says he’s like my f**king best friend. These guys are just weird.”

Windhorst later responded by pointing out that the Lakers star doesn’t owe him anything but that he actually owes LeBron quite a lot through his reporting career and went on to describe the four-time champion as a “great friend” to Cleveland.

Windhorst did not reply to the comments and James is continuing to mull over his NBA future, with his inevitable retirement beginning to appear on the horizon, although he remains committed to Los Angeles for the 2025/26 season.

That’s despite a crushing NBA Playoffs effort against the Minnesota Timberwolves, who won the series 4-1 and ensured LeBron will go ringless for the fifth consecutive season since 2019/20 – when he led the side to victory over Miami Heat during the Covid-19 pandemic bubble. He also became Finals MVP that year too.
