The Las Vegas Raiders suffered another crushing defeat in Week 15, losing 31-0 to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Starting quarterback Geno Smith was sidelined with a shoulder injury, forcing Kenny Pickett into the lineup against his former team.
The offense struggled to gain traction, while the defense was unable to contain Philadelphia’s passing game.
Despite the lopsided score, head coach Pete Carroll insisted his team gave a full effort throughout the game.
“They fought their ass off. That was the result… I have nothing but wins and background and history to set our expectations and maintain the standards that we work by. And that’s what we’re doing,” Carroll said.
Fan reaction skeptical
Carroll‘s defense of his team did not sit well with many fans. On social media, some suggested the ongoing struggles are as much about coaching as player performance.
One fan wrote, “Pete Carroll says week after week that the players are doing their jobs. If he says they’re not, then it falls on him and the coaching staff. He is the great deflector.”
Others called for a change in leadership.
“I hope they fire him. This team needs some fire and passion. He was never the right fit for this team. Another garbage season,” a user commented on Twitter.
Carroll was brought in with hopes of turning around the Raiders, especially after offseason moves to bolster the roster.
Yet, the team’s performance has mirrored previous disappointing seasons, leaving supporters frustrated and questioning whether progress under Carroll is realistic.
Even with a few weeks left in the season, it appears the Raiders‘ issues run deeper than injuries or a single game, raising concerns about the team’s direction and leadership moving forward.
